Trailing Heucherellas & Tiarellas
Trailing Heucherella and Tiarella are two exceptional plant varieties offered by TERRA NOVA® Nurseries, renowned for our unique aesthetics and versatile applications in both residential and commercial landscaping. These plants, hybrids between Heuchera and Tiarella (for Heucherella) and pure species Tiarella, bring together the best traits of their parent plants, offering stunning foliage and delicate flowers that make them a favorite among gardeners and landscape designers.
Benefits of Trailing Heucherella and Tiarella
Aesthetic Appeal:
- Both trailing Heucherella and Tiarella are prized for their vibrant and diverse foliage. With a variety of colors ranging from deep purples and reds to bright greens and silvers, they add visual interest to any garden or landscape.
- The trailing habit of these plants allows them to elegantly drape over the edges of containers, hanging baskets, or low walls, creating a cascading effect that is both charming and dramatic.
Shade Tolerance:
- These plants thrive in shady to partially shaded areas, making them ideal for gardens with limited sunlight. They can brighten up dark corners and under-canopy areas where other plants might struggle.
- Their ability to grow well in the shade also means they require less watering compared to sun-loving plants, making them a low-maintenance option for gardeners.
Long-Lasting Blooms:
- Trailing Heucherella and Tiarella produce delicate, airy flowers on tall, slender stems. These blooms typically appear in spring and can last well into summer, providing an extended period of interest.
- The flowers are also attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies, contributing to the ecological health of your garden.
Versatility:
- These plants are incredibly versatile in their uses. They are perfect for container gardening, where their trailing habit can be showcased, but they also perform well in ground cover applications, particularly in shaded woodland gardens.
- They can be used as border plants, in rock gardens, or even as a lush underplanting beneath taller shrubs and trees.
Low Maintenance:
- Both are relatively low maintenance, requiring minimal pruning and care once established. They are also resistant to common garden pests and diseases, making them a reliable choice for any gardener.
In summary, trailing Heucherella and Tiarella from TERRA NOVA® Nurseries offer a blend of beauty, resilience, and versatility. Whether used in containers, as ground cover, or in shaded garden areas, these plants bring a touch of elegance and natural beauty to any landscape. Their low maintenance requirements and adaptability make them an excellent choice for gardeners of all skill levels.
This small leaf trailer has lovely refined rosy copper-gold foliage that is muted, but distinct, and holds its color all year. The leaves are shaped more like a Heuchera and the trailing stems are very pliable. This is one of those plants that no one will recognize-it’s that different! Very vigorous and easy to grow, ‘Copper Cascade’ combines the best of all Tiarella and Heuchera attributes.
The first purple Heucherella, and it’s trailing! ‘Plum Cascade’ has lobed, purple silver leaves. Small, light pink flowers appear all summer on short stems. Very elegant with EXCELLENT vigor.
The ruby-splashed, butterfly-like foliage is adorned in wonderful, warm autumnal tones. Interest is added as these change colors through the seasons. It’s so nice spilling out of a container in sun or shade or use it in your mixed beds. Heuchera villosa breeding enhances its usability in many regions. Vigorous grower.
The second in our trailing FALLS™ series, ‘Yellowstone Falls’ has lovely chartreuse lobed leaves with deep crimson markings. The stems will trail 3 feet in a container making a wonderful hanging basket or a super groundcover.
A lovely, rapidly trailing groundcover which sports numerous branches. Well marked leaves have a large splatter pattern. Better marked than ‘Running Tapestry’. A great groundcover for shade or in a hanging basket. Short white flowers. Vigorous without getting out of hand.
We selected ‘Happy Trails’ for its profusion of runners and charming small rounded lobed leaves that are marked with a thick black band on the veins. It’s a vigorous trailer with short white flowers.
